General classes, held weekly in and around Newcastle, are a great introduction to the benefits of Pilates, but we are all physically unique. You may have a personal goal for your body or a particular injury needing special care and attention which is why Pilates Life also offers private sessions, with each session tailored to meet a client’s individual needs. 

The emphasis of the session is on quality of movement. You should feel safe, yet suitably challenged. We begin with a warm up element and then specific exercises. The pace and selection of exercises will depend on the individual, with time to discuss the purpose and effectiveness of the movements as we go.

Each session tends to be slightly different. We will build on the exercises which work for you, mixing in new ideas to help you to develop and of course to keep it interesting!

During the hour-long session you will work on the mat, reformer and other small equipment. There will be a strong focus on posture, alignment and breath.

The short answer is that Pilates offers something for everyone.

You may be completely new to Pilates and would like to explore the basics, getting them right to make sure you are working from a sound foundation. Or you may want to progress to more advanced levels.

If you are training for a specific sport, Pilates helps. You may not think it, but Pilates exercises are great for rugby, cricket, golf – list goes on. If you need to build on core strength or work on flexibility, or alleviate the tensions of repeated strain, individually-tailored sessions could really contribute to your success.

Pilates may have been recommended by a medical professional to help with a specific problem. In this case an individual session would certainly be better for you than a group class.

Or you might just prefer to work in this way rather than a class setting.

Some people come once or twice a week, others once a fortnight, others once a month. Some come occasionally to add to their practice. It is completely up to you!
